Ashland OR Outdoor Recreation Safety Note: Please remember that outdoor recreation activities can be dangerous. The single most important aspect of any outdoor adventure is to be safe and to be prepared. If you have questions regarding what you should bring for your particular outdoor adventure, please be sure to get them answered before your trip. Online searches, books, local outdoor stores, ranger stations and outdoor guides are good resources to consult in anticipation of your outdoor experience. Some ideas of what to bring, though not necessarily an exclusive list: proper footgear, rain gear, warm jacket, hat, gloves, layered clothing, ample water and/or water filter, food and emergency food rations, first aid kit, flashlight or headlamp, whistle and mirror to signal searchers, bear spray, insect repellent, sunscreen, sunglasses, emergency blanket or shelter, maps & compass or GPS and altitude reading device, waterproof matches or lighter, candle, knife, Leatherman and/or tool kit, and trash bag to carry out your trash.

Always check trail difficulty, tell others where you’re headed and when you’ll be back. Check weather and fire restrictions. If new to the area, do not go out alone. Do not rely on cell phones. Be ready to spend the night if needed.
