Wineries

Situated squarely within the Rogue Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA), Ashland is just a short drive away from numerous wineries.

The Bear Creek Valley comprises both Medford and Ashland, and with a climate similar to that of France’s Bordeaux region, specializes in varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec and Syrah.

Just up the road past the historic town of Jacksonville, the Applegate Valley has a slightly cooler climate and is well suited for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay and Zinfandel.

As a whole, the Southern Oregon wine region has been steadily growing and thriving in recent years. Several local vineyards have produced wines that were rated 90 plus points in Wine Spectator, and magazines like Food & Wine and Sunset have begun to take note.

Spend a few hours checking out a handful of the excellent boutique wineries in the area; you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find quiet, intimate tasting rooms, friendly staff eager to inform, and quality wines that rival that of its big-name counterparts in neighboring regions.
