*The opportunity to vote closed last night at 8pm, and some of the results have already been tabulated. Perhaps the measure with the biggest buzz, Measure 15-199 to ban the growing of GMO’s crops in Jackson County, was expected to pass as of last night.*

*Another election result: it appears Ashland’s Corey Falls is in the lead for Jackson County Sheriff, but if he doesn’t win an absolute majority, he will stay face a runoff in the fall.*

*Voters are likely approving the measure to support the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center. The funds raised by the measure would support a land-steward coordinator position and a Master Gardener position, both of which seem essential to this land of farmers and gardening.*

*For the final measure on the ballot, it appears that voters are supporting the county’s library system with a new Library District. All of those who rely on the library for critical resources will be thrilled.*

*Republicans Dyer and Roberts are in the lead in their primaries for County Commissioner.*

*An Oregon gay marriage ban was struck down earlier this week by a federal judge. Backers of gay marriage applauded around the world.
