If you notice a smokey haze rising from the Siskiyou Mountains today, it’s a controlled burn to improve the forest’s health and to reduce the forest fire threat to the area. LINK*
Possibly some great news for skiers and snowboarders – Mt. Ashland officials are testing the snow to see if they can open at least part of the mountain as they currently have roughly 16-20″ of snow. They also are expecting more snow on the way, so it’s quite possible that the ski mountain will open sooner than later. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed. LINK*
The water and rain issue isn’t, obviously, just a matter for ski mountain, but also concerns each individual in the region. Ashland has taken a big step, unanimously approving an expedited construction project to bring an emergency water source from Medford. The water line currently reaches Talent, and the project is expected to be finished in August or September. LINK*
Want more water news!? There’s some good news and bad news in regards to the regions water supply in the reservoirs. Water in the Upper Rogue area is now above normal thanks to the recent precipitation, while on the other end of the spectrum, Emigrant Lake is only at 30% of average. LINK*
